Reliq Manual

Song

The Song Page is currently in BETA and may be subject to changes in future updates.

The Song Page in Reliq serves as a centralized location for managing linear music structures across all pages of Reliq. The song mechanism is based on Song Blocks, which are used to define the structure of a song in a linear format.

Each Song Block can contain one Clip per track, a Matrix Sequencer Clip or Routings, an LFO Slot, an Envelope Slot, and a DAW Scene. These blocks allow for the arrangement and control of various elements across the system.

The contents of each Song Block can be defined through three main mechanisms: Tags, Snapshots, and Manual Editing. Reliq allows for 256 song blocks per project, with blocks progressing in a linear order from Block 1 to Block 256.

Each Song Block can also have its own settings, such as BPM and Duration, enabling control over the timing and flow of each block. The Song Page simplifies the process of arranging and managing complex musical structures by abstracting the contents and settings across all pages into a linear sequence.

Song Interface Overview

The Song Page displays a series of Song Blocks in a linear fashion, arranged in rows. Each row contains 16 song blocks, with the next row displayed as blocks proceed beyond 16.

The currently selected row is expanded on the screen to show the contents of the song blocks, including BPM, Duration, and Tags. The top of the display shows detailed settings for the selected block, including Tag, Duration, BPM, Clip, Matrix Clip, LFO Slot, Envelope Slot, and DAW Scene.

The Grid Pads on the Song Page correspond directly to the song blocks in a 1:1 ratio with the display. Each pad represents a block, with pads containing content illuminated in blue. Empty pads are unlit, while the current selected block is shown in white, and the active block is shown in green.

Creating and Editing Song Blocks

There are three primary methods for creating and editing song blocks in Reliq: Tags, Snapshots, and Manual Editing. Each method provides different levels of control and flexibility when defining the contents of a Song Block.

Tags

Tags allow for the categorization of various Reliq containers, such as clips, matrix clips, LFO slots, Envelope slots, and DAW scenes. Each tag is unique and can be assigned to one container per track and type.

Tag Screenshots

To define a tag for any Reliq container:

  • Navigate to the desired container (e.g., clip, matrix clip, LFO slot, Envelope slot, or DAW scene).

  • Rotate the encoder above the TAG label  on the screen to assign a tag. The tag will color the container. If a tag is already assigned to a container of the same track and type, the option will be greyed out.

Tagged containers can be used to automatically generate song blocks. On the Song Page, press the encoder  above the TAG label to open the Tag Selection Menu. Select a tag to generate a song block with the contents of the tagged containers.

Example: To generate an intro structure, navigate to the clip of each track or a column of sequencer clips, and assign the tag Yellow. Then, go to the Song Page, press the encoder above the TAG label  , and select the Yellow Tag to generate a song block with the contents of the tagged clips.

Snapshots

Snapshots capture the current state of the project and save it to a song block. This includes all currently playing clips, matrix clips, LFO slots, Envelope slots, and the DAW scene.

To take a snapshot:

  • Press  and hold the encoder above the SNAPSHOT label on the screen.

  • The snapshot will be saved to the currently selected song block.

Snapshots offer a quick way to generate song blocks based on live performance states.

Manual Editing

Whether created through Tags or Snapshots, the contents of any song block can be edited manually. To edit a song block:

  • Select the desired block on the Grid Pads.

  • The options for the selected block will appear at the top of the display.

For manual editing:

  • Click the encoder above the CLIP label  to assign or edit clips for each track.

Song Block General Settings

Each Song Block can have its own BPM and DURATION settings. To edit these, click the encoder above the BPM or DURATION label  on the display. The current BPM and Duration settings are shown inside the selected block.

Song Structure

Song blocks are arranged in a linear progression, starting from Block 1 and moving sequentially up to Block 256. When playback reaches an empty block, the next active block is selected automatically, continuing until the last active block is reached. The total duration of a song is the sum of all song blocks’ durations.

The Song Page can be activated or deactivated, allowing to switch between EDIT Mode, PERFORMANCE Mode, and SONG Mode. When the Song Page setting is OFF, pressing the Play button will not recall the first song block but will instead play the currently selected clips, matrix clips, LFO slots, Envelope slots, and DAW scene. When the Song Page is set to ON, the song blocks will be recalled in linear order. Setting the SONG PAGE to ON can be done by rotating the encoder above the SONG PAGE label  on the screen.

In Song Mode, follow-up actions for clips, matrix clips, LFO slots, and Envelope slots are disabled. These follow-ups will be triggered only when the Song Page is set to OFF.
